Populace Journal of Public Health and Epidemiology is pleased to announce the official appointment of Dr Nadjib M. Mokraoui, MD, MSc, PhD, as its Founding Editor-in-Chief.
Dr Mokraoui is a physician and epidemiologist with over 14 years of international experience spanning clinical practice, population health, and health systems research across three continents: Africa, North America, and Europe. He is currently affiliated with Université Paris-Saclay and Inserm’s Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health (CESP, U1018), France, where he conducts research within the Epidemiology of Gynaecological Health (EpiGyn) team.
Dr Mokraoui began his career with clinical practice in North Africa, laying a strong foundation in frontline healthcare and primary care realities in emerging health systems. He subsequently spent nearly a decade advancing clinical research and epidemiological infrastructure in Canada. His North American trajectory includes key scientific and leadership roles across leading academic health centers in Montreal, notably serving as Network Coordinator for the Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) at McGill University, Clinical Project Manager and Research Assistant at the Montreal Heart Institute, and Clinical Coordinator at the Montreal Pain Management Institute.
His scientific expertise encompasses public health, endometriosis, women's health, reproductive epidemiology, chronic pain, and complex multimorbidity. His research focuses on co-occurring chronic conditions, comorbidity profiles, and their impact on clinical outcomes and quality of life. Notably, his published contributions on multimorbidity operationalization and primary care health systems (supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – CIHR) reflect a strong dedication to health system resilience. He is also the Principal Investigator of PRECURSOR, an innovative initiative dedicated to the early, multimodal management of severe primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents to prevent chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis.
As Founding Editor-in-Chief, Dr Mokraoui will oversee the journal’s overarching scientific direction, editorial integrity, and peer-review standards. His unique tricontinental background combining clinical practice in North Africa, health systems and epidemiological research in Canada, and advanced population health research in France positions him ideally to bridge diverse international health research communities.
His editorial vision aligns seamlessly with the core mission of Populace Journal of Public Health and Epidemiology: to establish an open-access, methodologically rigorous platform that advances global health equity, promotes transparent research, and actively amplifies high-impact epidemiological findings from underrepresented regions and underserved health systems worldwide.
Among its initial scientific initiatives under his leadership, the journal will launch thematic calls addressing major global health challenges, including health disparities, endometriosis, women’s reproductive health across the life course, multimorbidity burdens, and chronic disease prevention strategies.
This landmark appointment establishes strong scientific leadership for Populace as it builds an inclusive, globally engaged venue for transformative public health research.
